Fawzaan’s Advice to Teach your Children the Qur’aan
هل يحفظ طالب العلم القرآن وحده حتى يكمله
أو يجمع بينه وبين المتون؟
الاجابة
الجواب: المستحسن أن حفظ القرآن يكون في
الصغر، أن الطفل إذا ميز يبدأ معه حفظ القرآن، فيحفظ القرآن أول شيء، ثم بعد ذلك
يطلب العلم، يطلب العلم بعد حفظ القرآن، فطالب العلم كونه يحفظ القرآن أولا يكون
أحسن إذا أمكن، وإذا لم يكن حفظ القرآن ليس ضروريا يكفي قراءة القرآن، يكفي أنه
يحسن قراءة القرآن ولو نظر من المصحف لا بأس؛ لكن إذا حصل حفظ فهو لاشك أنه أحسن،
ويمكن أن يجمع بين الحفظ وبين تعلم العلم، يمكن هذا يجعل لحفظ القرآن وقت، ويجعل
لتعلم العلم وقتاً آخر.
Should a student of knowledge memorize
the Qur’aan on its own until he finishes it or should he memorize the Qur’aan
along with the mutoon (other religious texts)?
The Shaykh answers:
It is better to memorize the Qur’aan as
a child. Once the child has reached the age of discernment (around 7 years old)
you should start with him. He memorizes the Qur’aan first then after that he
seeks knowledge. He seeks knowledge after memorizing the Qur’aan. It is better
for a student to memorize Qur’aan first if possible. If not, then it is not
obligatory – reading the Qur’aan is sufficient. He should read the Qur’aan properly
even if he has to look at the Mushaf – there is no harm. However, if he achieves
memorization of the Qur’aan then there is no doubt that this is best. It is possible
also to combine memorizing the Qur’aan and seeking knowledge. He could make
time for memorizing the Qur’aan and at another time seek knowledge.
