What is Transliteration?
Writing a language in the sounds of another language
for e.g.
Arabic word in Arabic Script: السلام
Arabic word in English Latin Script: As Salaam (transliteration)
English meaning of the Arabic word: Peace (translation)
The Qur'aan cannot be translated. The Qur'aan is and will always be in the original Arabic language. However, the meanings of the Qur'aan (the explanation - tafseer) can be translated into other languages.
Therefore, there is no such term as:
'English Qur'aan' X
We say instead: 'English Translation of the Meanings of the Qur'aan'.
Furthermore, some people have transliterated the Qur'aan into English. This is NOT ALLOWED. It could lead to corruption of the original Arabic Qur'aan. If someone has difficulty reading the Arabic Qur'aan then they should LISTEN to a reciter and try to copy the reciter. Trying to read the 'transliteration' is practically useless without hearing the original Arabic.
